Mapware is seeking a full-time Product Owner to act as the liaison between our product organization and one or more of our amazing software delivery teams. This role is new to the company, and you will have the opportunity to help us shape our organization and bring a product led, data driven, customer first mentality to our agile delivery capabilities. This position is 100% remote.

  • Align requirements and their work breakdown structure with the larger product, portfolio, platform, and strategic goals – the “why”
  • Convey product vision and roadmap to an Agile delivery team by breaking down high level requirements into sufficiently detailed user stories and prioritizing the team backlog – the “what”
  • Ensure the Development Team understands items in the backlog to the level needed, and that they meet the “Definition of Ready”
  • Clearly define end-to-end acceptance criteria with a user centric approach
  • Answer questions from software engineering team and clarifies requirements.
  • Ensure the Backlog is visible, transparent, and clear to all, and shows what the Scrum Team will work on next
  • Assess tech debt and defects as part of the development backlog and manages accordingly
  • Understand building for scale, and re-usable services to enable innovation and shorter go to market times
  • Run backlog grooming and sprint planning, attends standups, retrospectives, and demos.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet or exceed information security policies
  • Ensure nonfunctional requirements are met, including: performance, scalability, test automation targets.

  • The Product Owner is not a committee – they are the sole person responsible for managing the Team Backlog.
  • Those wanting to change a Backlog item’s priority must address the Product Owner.
  • No one can force the Development Team to work from a different set of requirements.
  • For the Product Owner to succeed, the entire organization must respect their decisions.
  • The Product Owner works to maximize the value of the engineering investment resulting from the work of the Development Team.

  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s (BA or BS) or MBA, computer science or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years’ previous experience as a product manager, product owner, business analyst, or in a related field.
  • Experience in GIS, 3D imagery applications
  • In-depth understanding of Agile methodologies, product life-cycle, and up-to-date on industry standards and best practices.
  • Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel) and standard product requirement planning tools (JIRA, Aha!, Confluence or similar).
  • Familiarity with Micro-services, REST/Json/XML interfaces, methods and schemas.
